Alp speculates about western seat loss on Friday.
“There are a lot of people who will walk here as early as Monday, and that’s because, at the moment, there’s a lot of speculation about how much they’ll lose,” said the Australian, who spent last week riding in the Vuelta. “They will be surprised. The number of riders in the early stage races is fairly small compared to the overall races, so the early part will be a little dull, like in the Tour.
“I feel confident in this stage for Australian road cyclists: they don’t know too many riders. They’ll be fighting to find a few minutes. It’s a strong stage from A-day to Giro and it could be a very tight stage. I don’t see the GC going to any trouble.
“With the Giro, riders will have to adapt, if they go for a stage win, because I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the mountain바카라사이트s: we’re in the mountains on Sunday, and it’s so cold and damp there. They won’t be able to adapt quickly. When we had that Tour yesterday, guys were complaining how hard it was for them not to win, but with this, for sure, I’m happy to see them fight.
“At the moment, these days there’s no reason for us to go racing if it’s like this. But we’ll do it.”
Fellow Australian Simon Gerrans is the only remaining rider to survive out-race in this tough mountain stage. The 33-year-old has been left on the sidelines, with teammates Daniel Friebe (Lotto-Soudal) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (Orica-GreenEdge) making way.
Gerrans admitted his team had a bad morning, after he was dropped by a late바카라 attack on the penultimate climb, Alto de Torre in the northern mountains.
“It’s disappointing, because you don’t want to be dropped [on such a big climb],” he admitted. “To 바카라be honest, I was thinking we had to catch the last few guys so we could leave them in a few seconds, but we saw more riders and decided that we need to fight [on].
“I think the riders are still feeling quite strong though. I have no problems with myself, because this is my fifth consecutive stage and I have a big win with us so if I can recover quickly enough I feel like I can still stay out of trouble.
